Ever
wanted to set up a residents association or understand what they can
achieve? Read our guide below to find out more. There
are many reasons why either tenants, homeowners, or both find it
necessary to form their own residents associations. Usually, there
is an issue such as anti social behaviour, or, improved facilities
that requires tackling. However large or small such issues appear to
the outside world, if these are addressed they can make a big
difference to peoples lives. In addition to the positive benefits of
influencing local issues, there are of course other advantages of
forming a residents association such as arranging social events,
getting to know your neighbours and creating a real community where
everyone young and old looks out for each other.
The good news is that there are plenty of organisations who are
willing to offer help and advice to tenants, and possibly funding to
help set a residents association. For example, local housing
association tenants who are represented may be willing to provide
grants provided the residents association meets their criteria of
how one should be formed and operated. Furthermore, there is a
national body known as the
Tenant
Participation Advisory Service (TPAS) which is an independent
body providing information, training and advice for tenants and
private occupiers who wish to set up a residents association.
